Fasting Guidelines

It is my privilege to be leading you as well as coaching you through the process of this fast. Lisa and I are so grateful that you’ve decided to join us on the journey to a deeper spiritual life in
Christ. Understand that it is God’s will that you “purify yourself from everything that contaminates the body and spirit.” (2Corithians 7:1) remember that you’re joining together with a community of other believes and that your efforts are increased in effect. “For one puts a thousand to flight and two ten thousand.” (Joshua 23:10) (Deuteronomy 32:30) Remember this, God is fighting for you and that Lisa, and I are praying for you.

Blessings,
Sylvester & Lisa

As you approach fasting there are a few things you should know about the basics of a fast. Along with fasting we are asking that every day you gather your family in corporate prayer and worship.

You should start by clearly defining the type of fast you’re completing. You should have defined objectives to your fast such as salvation for family, friends and coworkers or healing, financial breakthrough or business goals. Be specific regarding whatever your need is. Ask God to do what He desires in your life and what only He can do. You should also be bold in what your desires are. Plan to spend regular time in prayer and the word of God. It is also important to spend time leading your family in worship as well as participating in corporate prayer and private worship.

2 Chron 20:13 NIV
13 All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the Lord.

Isaiah 58:6 NIV
6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?

Matt 6:33-34 NIV
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Daniel 10:3 (AMP) I ate no tasty food, nor did any meat or wine enter my mouth; and I did not anoint (refresh, groom) myself at all for the full 3 weeks.

Daniel 1:12 (CEV) For the next 10 days, let us only have vegetables and water at mealtime.

Mattew 6: 16-18 And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

There are several types of fasts in the Bible. Therefore, the type you choose is between you and God. Remember He will reward your best sacrifice.
The bible speaks of 1, 3, 7, 21 and 40 days of fast. We ask that during corporate fast you join in with us for 7 days. When fasting for private fast you set the number. Please consult your doctor before fasting. If you’re on some sort of medication or have a medical condition that will affect your ability to fast. You may need to fast or restrain from social media, television, or something like that; don’t allow the enemy to rob you of an opportunity.

Full Fast/Complete Fast
Drink water only (other types of non-sugar juices can be substituted only if needed). Ask God for his direction. (You decide the number of days If you’re fasting a full or complete fast)

The Daniel Fast Eat no meat, no bread, and no sweets. Drink water and juice. Eat vegetables and fruits. (This or some form of this fast is our recommended fast to all who fast as a part of our church community, or combined with a full fast.)

Partial Fast
This fast last from 6am to 6pm you can select from you choose from a full fast, Daniel Fast or one item or food. (Remember to fast means to cover the mouth so you go without food and drink) although we encourage fasting from social media and television the like food and drink are the primary focus of a fast.

Preparing Spiritually
Confess your sins to God. (1John 1:9) Forgive all who have offended you and ask those whom you may need forgiveness of to forgive you. (Mark 11:25) (Luke 11:4 & 17: 3-4) Ask the Holy Spirit to show you of any sin or weakness. (Psalm 139: 23-24) Surrender completely to Jesus and reject the ways of the culture. (Romans 12 : 1-2) Remember the motive of fasting is to disconnect from the world and to reconnect to God.

What to Expect
When you fast your body detoxifies thereby eliminating toxins from your bodies systems. This in many cases will cause a mild discomfort such as gas, headaches, and irritability because of withdrawal from such things as sugar and caffeine. Know that this is normal and a part of the process, don’t panic the first couple of days are the hardest. Naturally hunger pains and food cravings occur. Whenever this happens
drink water and be careful not to consume drinks that have acidities, they form gas. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Get plenty of rest. You are following the example of Jesus and many others in the Bible therefore you will need to spend time listening to God. Fasting brings about the miraculous
so trust God.

How to End
Eat solid foods gradually and in moderation don’t overeat. Start with small portions and snacks.
